Edouard Funck is a costume designer and dressmaker from Paris used to work with puppets since the age of 11.
Currently designing "Romeo & Juliet" for the Salzburg Marionette Theatre (October 2024)
He graduated from the Ecole Paul Poiret in Paris in 2009.
He began his career as a dressmaker and dresser for several productions at the National Theatre of the Comédie-Française in Paris, and shortly thereafter began designing for XXème Théâtre, for the Théâtre de la Maison des Métallos, Paris or for the Théâtre Gérard Philipe in Saint-Cyr. He also worked for Chanel embroidery preparation at Atelier Carrasco and for musicals such as The Lion King in France.
Funck was always interested in puppetry as well as costumes, and at the age of 11, began a decade of work at the Eiffel Tower puppet theatre. In 2011, this led him to the world-renowned Salzburg Marionette Theatre, where he has worked as the head of the costume department, a puppeteer, and a costume designer for productions both at their home in Austria and on tour in the USA, China, the Middle-East, and Europe.
Funck’s passion and dedication has helped preserve the incredible detail and quality of this company and their costumes. He has worked on many productions including, The Sound of Music, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Don Giovanni, The Barber of Seville, The Little Prince, The Magic Flute, Fidelio, The Nutcracker, and The Ring of the Nibelung.
Armed with this strong experience, Funck got involved in the European adaptation of Ghost - The Musical (Stage Entertainment) in Berlin/Hamburg 2017 - Swan Lake, Carmen, The Rite of Spring, Carmen at the Leipzig Opera, 2018. After a year in Hamburg, working for the opening of Cirque du Soleil's Paramour, he 's back since 2020 at the Salzburg Marionettes, supervising new productions: Fidelio (Bonn, Bruxelles) & Pùnkitititi! (Mozart week 2020 - 2022) and also designing costumes for new shows for this company like The Old Tree - Mozart Week 2023.
2020 marked a turning point in Funck's career. He designed the costumes and puppets of 1000 Cranes - for Salzburg Festival. A new music theatre piece about the fate and destiny of the peace Icon, Sadako Sasaki - Staging: Sybrand van der Werf.
